Completely Serious...

This is of course a square tissue box cover with the Disney image of Goofy. I love the Leisure Arts book I got this from; it has Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Daisy Duck and Donald Duck! It was so much fun creating this even though the actual box is nothing but green all around, making the perfect stitches was still fun. Goofy just doesn't know, does he? : )

Beautiful Blue Meadows

The top one isn't the best picture but you can still tell the work is very intricately done. The design is by Conn Baker Gibney who, by one of my last posts, seems to be an expert in creating diverse and intricate scenery. I must say that this tissue box cover takes FOREVER to make and requires a lot of patience. This is my favorite piece that uses identical single stitches. The finished image makes me feel as if I'm in a peaceful garden, far away........ : )

Braiding & Blending

This is a long Multicolored tissue box cover that requires special yarn....you know, the multicolored yarn that's just one big piece of color-changing string! This yarn is called variegated yarn and I forget the actual given name of this particular color scheme, but it gives the illusion of looking like a jewel or an aurora borealis. I always love doing this because you have to keep the same repeated colors going to make it look right and you just never know what to expect! As you can see, I sewed these pieces together with a braided stitch just to make it more decorative (and because that's how the pattern book did it).

Yarn Crossing!

I made this tissue box cover a few years ago and it still looks like a work of art! The diamond in the middle of each side-called a waffle stitch- is made by crossing long pieces of yarn many times. In order to make this look right, one has to start off with a looooong piece of yarn. I just love the temerity the red color brings out for the box. The design is by Jane Beaman.

One Step Up

I made these shoes for my mother in 2009 as a Mother's Day gift. She never wore them but nevertheless I'm still very proud of them! The only pattern I had for these were my eyes as I just grabbed a pair of her shoes and started stitching. I did trace around her shoes with pen and paper though just to have an idea of what I was doing. They were made to fit a size 9 and I did turkey loop stitches on the inside to make them soft and comfortable: ) I just love the buttons-they're actually stitched on. Would you wear them?

Minute Mini Miniatures

(close-up)
These pieces are a small library and house- both close to the size of an open hand. I did these around the same time several years ago and they're both some of my best miniatures! Gina Woods is a designer who designed these and other little houses and buildings like these! I changed the color on the library roof to a variegated yarn color and I just love the library for it's mini,10-mesh books in the window, which you can see in the close-up.The hardest part of the houses is always putting together the fragile front frame because it tends to break before one can sew it on....
